(1) I'm trying to get back into the practice of writing fic and I'd like to do something for Advent which will be here before I think any of us would like to admit, so I'd like to ask for prompts.

Give me a character or pairing, any requests you have about gen vs. het vs. slash, ratings, etc. you'd like me to keep in mind, and a few elements or themes you'd like me to work in. Aim to be specific enough to give me something concrete to latch on to, but open enough that my creativity could do some work. I'm most comfortable writing Tolkien (any Tolkien or the Jackson adaptations) and Sherlock Holmes (Doyle or BBC), but I'm willing to stretch myself and try to take on some of the other things I enjoy (Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Avengers, X-Men, pretty much anything you see me discussing or posting about over at Tumblr). [ETA: Or Swordspoint, the first Kushner novel. Swordspoint is always fair game, that almost goes without saying.] Fics may be un-beta'd and un-Brit checked because I'm really trying to encourage my muse which often means offering little resistance. But that doesn't mean sloppily written or unresearched, and I hope they'll be enjoyable.

So please. Prompt me in the comments of this post and I'll do as many as I can.

(2) I'm also planning on doing holiday cards. I'm fairly certain my address book is around here somewhere but I can't lay my hand on it easily, so even if you think I have your address please send it to me again. Comments are not filtered on this post; probably best to send me a private message through LJ or Tumblr or email if you don't want to broadcast your particulars to the whole internet. Similarly, if you do the same and need my address (which is, to be clear, neither expected nor required), PM me and I'll share it with you. It's the same Cambreleng address I've lived at for the last several years.

(3) In honor of Rosh HaShannah, I wrote up a little retirement-era BBC!Sherlock headcanon. Because, you know, bees.

My headcanon, in honor of the season:

Sherlock celebrates Rosh HaShannah (though he would never go so far as to admit it), not because he is spiritual let alone Jewish, but because any holiday built around the byproducts of bees is eminently more beautiful to him than one whose main markers seem to be getting drunk and blowing things up.

Once they moved out to Sussex he somehow fell in the habit of making muffins for days on end in the early autumn, bran flavored with apples from a local market and honey off of his own hives, more than the two of them could possibly eat, and they ended up giving most of them away to the local boys’ home. John asked him about it once, only once, to which Sherlock grimaced something about being boooooored, and also having a mild scientific curiosity about the precise way heat denatured the viscosity of the honey. Of course he did.

John wisely decided not to pursue the matter, though he didn’t complain about all the dishes nearly as much as one would suspect. The timing of it all is surely a coincidence, whatever Mycroft would have said.

Also, the inimitable Ellen Kushner shared artwork of apples in honor of the holiday, to which I added honey and a peaceful little rendition of "Shalom Aleichem," here. A L'Shana Tova to all who celebrate it.

(To those that don't know, I'm theologically Christian but my family is ethnically Jewish and because my German family included camp survivors growing up, it was actually something that got woven into our family life and I grew up in a beautiful mix of Catholic and Jewish traditions. I also have always found the philosophy and theology to be particularly beautiful, perhaps because it's a minority faith which lets it do some interesting work. Suffice it to say, while I don't claim to represent or practice Judaism in any standard way, it's always been very important to me and I do mark most of the major holidays, Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur included, after my own fashion.)

If I can give you an advent fic prompt I would say ACD Sherlock, slash, Holmes/Watson, pining!

Thanks! As I said I may not be able to fill them all but I do like that theme and I haven't written nearly enough ACD, so I will certainly try.

Pining is my favourite ACD trope, it works so, so well for them. I know how these challenges go, so it's totally fine if you don't got to it! But if you do, I'm very much looking forward to reading what you come up with :)

I'd love a glimpse of Faramir and Merry during those days in the Houses of Healing. We know Faramir asked Merry about Eowyn. But I'm sure that Merry wanted to know about Faramir's encounter with Frodo in Ithilien.

Oh, lovely idea! I think I've written a story that Mery featured into giving Faramir insight into Eowyn, though I'm trying to think which. Maybe I'll have to poke around and find it.

But Faramir and Merry sitting by a wall in the sun and trading tales of Frodo - wouldn't that be a lovely ficlet? The usual proviso applies (I may not get to all, so don't be disappointed, etc.) but I will do my best.

This is brilliant of you to offer, and if it's not to much trouble, I would love a ficlet. Right now I'm ravenous for everything MCU Steve/Bucky, but I'm happy to read Star Trek (Kirk/Spock) or Tolkien (anything involving Elrohir or Faramir, gen or slash).

Prompt: cold (originally I was thinking temperature, because come December it'll be summer here in Australia and I'll be thinking longingly of winter, but it can also mean illness if that suits you better).

If you'd like to receive a card from Australia, please message me (via LJ or tumblr) an address I can send one to!

Thanks so much again for thinking of me ♥

Themes that have more than one meaning really appeal to my inner linguist. It also may be fun to play with cold in an emotionally distant kind of way.

I have a few ideas and we'll see what I can come up with. Usual provisos apply (time and inspiration come and go, I may not get to all prompts to please don't be disappointed), but if I can I'll definitely write it.

Hey I made an LJ account for this :)
If I could give you a ficlet prompt...it would probably be ACD Holmes/Watson, with something fluffy, like Holmes in a fit because he needs a case or something (just a thought, can be anything), because there really isn't a lot of ACD fluff around!

When I saw your message on tumblr I danced a little. I have never been offered a prompt before!

Yay! Glad to make your morning a little brighter.

You're right, there simply isn't enough ACD fluff in the world, which is ironic because basically every canon story opens with the most charming domesticity. Whereas BBC Sherlock is angst city in some ways but there is just so much fluff in the fandom.

It would be... not wholly inaccurate to say I have an idea. Or three. We'll see what I can come up with. Thanks for helping me do this.

Hey there! Thanks for thinking of me for this.

Your missionprompt, should you choose to accept it:

ACD Holmes, H/W, "glittering"

Good luck, and have fun with the advent and the writing of cards. (I used to do them, but not any more; time is seldom on my side. Well done you, getting started in such a timely fashion.)

Thanks again!

I'd love to read something about Aragorn's Thorongil days, gen. I'm utterly fascinated by the relationship between Thorongil, Ecthelion and Denethor.

I love getting Christmas cards, but fear the mail costs have soared too much to be able to afford to exchange them.

I have a deep respect and admiration for the Jewish faith.

Hurrah!!

if you feel like it, I am always always up for a sherlock snugglefic. I'd take any Sherlock pairing, but johnlock is the obvious one. And if it had something to do with Christmas (or possibly solstice?), even better!

plot totally optional, smut or kissing totally optional, as long as there is some kind of cuddling/snuggling.

Heh, were you involved in the tumblr-refuge conversation about tropes/kinks? The above comments have nailed a lot of them.

Hullo, dear! It was so nice of you to seek me out for prompts. Prompting is not really my forte, b/c I can't do it from the other side (I'm so amazed by you authors who are able to write-on-command, that's so cool.)

Umm, I like Johnlock or Spirk, either one, so whatever works for you.

Invisibility (heh, just read a great Teen Wolf invisible thingie, and that's always so fun, b/c it addresses so many emotions of inadequacy in addition to difficulty in navigating the world. And, of course, if your TRUE LOVE can see you, but no one else, that's even better.

I'm fond of stalkers. The terror of some unknown following you and knowing your secrets and you never feel safe. And then there's the one person who can protect you. But that might be a little much for a ficlet.

How about that moment when you find out your friend/partner is something more than human, that this has been deliberately hidden for however long. Is it arousing to find out (because duh, superhuman=sexy), or does it spark jealousy and mistrust?

If this is a Christmassy thing, then there's a picture I've always meant to do a fic for (http://muffinmoip.tumblr.com/post/30502620586/will-consult-for-food-beggar-sherlock-as) featuring beggar!Sherlock. He's playing his violin, all in rags in the cold, and John is sitting behind him on the stoop, cane resting beside his thigh. What's the story from there; how does it progress?

Were any of this the kind of thing you were looking for?

Thanks for offering this up. It looks like a lot of fun!

How about some Sherlock magical realism, maybe with a holiday/seasonal feel to it? Gen, Sherlock/John, Mycroft/Lestrade, John/Mary, John/Mary/Sherlock are all things I enjoy.
