Give me a character and I will tell you...

* How I feel about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
* Something about them I consider true, even though it's only my head canon/fanon

***********************

Tolkien's obviously fair game, as is Sherlock (BBC or Doyle), Star Trek, Harry Potter, Swordspoint (first book), Hunger Games, new Doctor Who, Avengers... pretty much anything you've seen me blather on about.

let's do Martin
... because Sherlock gets entirely too much attention as it is. :-)

* How I feel about this character: I've always had a soft spot for him. So delightfully put upon but always stands his own ground.

* All the people I ship romantically with this character: I honestly can't imagine Martin having a romance, certainly not with anyone other than the occasional minor character who I don't have strong feelings about.

* My non-romantic OTP for this character: Martin/Arthur. I love Douglas, no doubt, but he's so charmingly longsuffering and protective of Arthur, and the two balance each other out so well in a yin and yang way. Don't even get me started on that moment in "Douz" when he suggested taxi-ing the plane down the highway to the Kabili.

* My unpopular opinion about this character: I always found him a bit unconvincing at a practical level. The whole no-salary-at-all thing. It's okay because it's a comedy, but it kept me from taking his character all that seriously.

* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: like with your recent fanfic, I always suspected there was something messed up with Martin in terms of his character. Psychologically, I mean. I would have liked to have seen Carolyn or Douglas be a bit more proactive in that regard.

* Something about them I consider true, even though it's only my head canon/fanon: As a child he was much more ready to take risks than he is as an adult. Some risk went badly wrong, and that's why he clings to the rules so thoroughly as he does, because they make him feel safe.

Re: let's do Martin
I definitely love your headcanon about something going badly wrong in Martin's childhood. That would be a great idea for a story, I think.
