granada holmes

(no subject)

In my family, the Amazon Christmas wish list has become a bit of a tradition. I think I started it when I picked up a truly regrettable scarf down in SoHo for my sister one year, when after much prodding the best I could get out of her for what she wanted was "jeans," "music," and "a nice scarf." The one I picked out(in her words) was like a cross between vomit and moldy shag carpet. I insisted that if she wanted better gifts she had to give me better instructions because apparently I wasn't up to working out what a "nice" scarf was - I thought it was chic. Hall was all over the idea that he could give us technical specifications for the precise speaker he wanted for his jeep, and I liked the guarantee of not being dressed down because I can't pick out a decent scarf.

It does feel weird, to work out what you hope people will give you, but I think we've avoided that by us kids making lists that are at least fifty items long so people still have lots o choices and it doesn't feel like you're dictating to anyone. But the real fun for me is sitting down and thinking of what you'd like. It's hope and play, I guess, and I'm really no good at those this year - it seems exorbitantly positive. So forcing myself to do that was a good thing, I think.

It also gives a window into what I'm interested in, and maybe gives you guys some ideas as well. So if you're interested, here's my list:

The one item I didn't add? This beefcake calendar featuring the men of Sherlock by Reapersun. It's not just the art, but the whole concept is such a send-up to that whole genre. It makes me giggle and smile.

On a slightly different note I got into a conversation with a neighbor about Benedict' engagement today. She said I must be at least a little disappointed. I wanted to say (but didn't) that the closest I came to fancying anyone on the show was Mark Gatiss, who is famously married to another man, and that if she thought factual unavailability had anything at all to do with making googly eyes over actors in fandom, she really didn't understand how it worked. Were I so inclined and did I think I had a chance at all , Benedict's getting married would be small potatoes.
