The website www.ThinkChristian.net is hosting a short post I wrote on The Hobbit:
I’ve mentioned this post here a few times. I start by reacting to The Hobbit trailer and some bits from the book (nothing too spoilerish), and then move on to talk about one of my favorite parts of the early chapters: Bilbo’s loss of creature-comforts as he sets out on an adventure and the way he balances his longing for home with the wonderful things he gets to see on the road.
Given ThinkChristian’s audience, I framed this in distinctly Christian terms and wrote specifically about the way Christians look forward to Christ’s return rather than enjoy the life they’re in right now – sometimes too much IMO. But this is hardly a problem unique to Christians, and I think it’s worth reading and thinking about whatever your vantage point. It’s short (about 600 words) and also includes me going slightly fangirly over the Hobbit trailer. What’s not to love?
If you do read it, I’d appreciate a comment over at that site. You can log in using FaceBook or Twitter, or you can sign up for a local account at their site. (It’s free.) And I always love comments here as well.
Also: this is my first post at a site other than my personal blog. I’m excited!
